The Times On Drugs.

There’s a fairly simple explanation for why the Spanish are taking so much cocaine:

According to the United Nations study, 3 per cent of Spaniards aged 15-64 regularly inhaled cocaine in 2005.

"Inhaling" it would simply lead to coughing it all up again all over the urinals. "Snorting" it so that it covers and is then absorbed by the nasal membranes tends to work rather better.

Thus the reason the Spanish are using so much of it: they have to use a great deal more than anyone else in order to get a buzz.
