Shit and Fuck on TV

Via Daniel Drezner, this is gorgeous. Complaining about the use of the words shit and fuck on TV, our fine and intelligent bureaucrat releases a press statement. One, which we must assume, as it is a press statement, which he would like news anchors to quote, quite possibly live on air:

…the
use of the words “fuck” and “shit”…the
word “fuck”…the
use of the words “fuck” and “shit”…

Please note, we only use words here on this blog that have been approved by a Commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission*. Fuck and shit are now so approved. So, so approved.

* OK, so sometimes we jump the gun.

Those who like to complain about offensive language and much else in the media of related ilk, might like to consider exercising their sensitivities over the BBCTV2 series: Rome, which featured in a recent amazon promotion of substantially discounted video DVDs.
According to current news wires, production of a second series of Rome is about to commence in studios just outside Rome. I found the DVD of the first series very . . err . . illuminating and fascinating from several perspectives, including the history of Rome amongst others. The producers insist that however much the characters portrayed in the series have been fleshed out and embellished, the framework is firmly rooted in history, unlike most other movie depictions of classical Rome which tend to jumble up detail from various periods for spectacular effect. If so, the later years of the Roman Republic must have been one hell of a place.
