Boris and Cocaine

Not exactly a revelation:

Speaking to former Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan in GQ magazine, Mr
Johnson,42, said of the cocaine episode: "I tried it at university and
I remember it vividly. It achieved no pharmacological psychotropic or
any other effect on me whatsoever."

I wouldn’t be all that sure about that. Perhaps the best explanation of Boris is that he simply hasn’t come down yet.

This is truly bizarre. Almost every politician who gives an interview these days appears to have tried both cocaine and cannabis at some point in the past, and found them both to be “boring” drugs which “had no effect”. Do they have different body chemistry from normal human beings, or did they all have the same dealer?
Tim adds: Well, I know that I got mine from different dealers (different country) but my reaction has been very much the same. Boring, not for me.
Oh dear, does that mean I might be a politician?

  2. Agree with Tim and Boris on cocaine: boring and expensive. That said with a sample size of one evening I’m not ruling it out yet.
I do think this denial of effect (or inhalation) rather than denial of experimentation is a relatively new aspect. I believe it stems from politicians looking to portray themselves as worldly but responsible. They might admit to enjoying a drink but they’d probably deny feeling drunk was part of what they liked.

    The Wiki entry is illuminating:

Perhaps the problem nowadays is Viagra, not the illicit stuff.

I found that when you take cocaine, the user himself doesn’t really notice that much apart from a bit of a buzz, but other people notice that the user has turned into a complete arrogant idiot. Which is fine if the whole group is on cocaine, you just slag each other off mightily without anybody taking offence. But for an onlooker is is quite disturbing. So, boring. And it makes your nose itch something rotten.

I think a friend of Boris should quietly take him aside and suggest he lays off the viagra.
