Falwell’s Outburst.

No, I’ll admit, this I didn’t know:

Hey, I’m no theologian, but I’m guessing a poor prognosis for
those who teach a blasphemous parody of Christianity in order to
promote the commission of mortal sins may not be just Falwell’s own
idiosyncratic take on the religion.

  1. There are too many Christophobes and left wing supremacists out there for the whole story to make it into the public forum. They’ll never tell us that the “brute beasts” terminology is borrowed from the Bible, and not something Falwell came up with just to sound mean. They’ll never tell us that he was speaking about a specific group of people who are not merely gay, but trying to teach the world that if the Lord Himself wasn’t gay, he at least thought it was okay, contrary to everything else the Bible has to say about it.
Kudos to you for putting a light on it.
Obviously, Falwell had a knack for saying the right thing the wrong way, to the point that an apology was certainly in order, but it’s nice to see that his occasional (and not incessant) verbal gaffes are being critically parsed by at least somebody. There are too many people who simply regurgitate these quotes taken out of context and use it as justification for pre-existing, bigoted sentiments on their parts toward Christians and Christianity in general.
Your own sentiments are not entirely clear, which, in my opinion, is further evidence that you’re reserving judgement until after you’ve had a chance to critically think about it.
    Kudos again.
