John Reid and the Law

John Reid really was a lousy choice as Home Secretary, wasn’t he?

Human rights laws must be "modernised" because Britain is effectively
at war with terrorists, John Reid said yesterday. The Home Secretary
told a European summit that judges who follow the law "to the letter"
are stopping the Government from -protecting the public.

Guess we need a bit more Robert Bolt, eh? Once again:

“And when the last law was down,” More replies, “and the Devil turned
on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This
country is planted with laws from coast to coast, man’s laws, not
God’s, and if you cut them down, and you’re just the man to do it, do
you really think you could stand upright in the wind that would blow
then?”

A request to Gordo upon his ascension. D’ye think you could appoint someone as the next Home Secretary someone who actually understands this point?
