Chris Ayres: Tsk.

Err:

It doesn’t help that the show is hosted by Jeff Foxworth, whose entire
body of work revolves around the US equivalent of Irishman jokes, all
of which begin with the line, “You might be a redneck if . . .”.

That would be Jeff Foxworthy then, yes?

If one is going to write a humorous piece about ‘fifth grade lights versus adult intellect’, it might be as well to ensure that one gets the proper names spelled correctly.
One leaves oneself open to all manner of humorous retorts, otherwise….

. . . as well as trying not to make it blindingly-obvious that one has never actually seen Foxworthy’s act, while condescendingly decribing it for the benefit of the ignorant readers. Anyone who has actually seen Foxworthy’s ‘redneck’ shtick, or even a tiny portion thereof, knows that the jokes do not begin with ‘you might be a redneck . . . ‘ – that’s how they END. The repeated line at the END of each joke is the central, pivotal key to what makes Foxworthy’s delivery funny.
Absolutely stone-typical of the average reportage in the UK about virtually-anything to do with American pop-culture. Factually-incorrect, yet nevertheless terminally-condescending. Safe-to-do because a) most Brits are completely clueless about virtually-everything that goes on in the US, and will happily believe virtually-anything that they are told about it, and b) making fun of America and the Americans has become the last acceptable racism in the UK, guaranteed to resonate with the largest-possible number of readers.
