Lord almighty this is simply putrid:

More than three decades after British islands in the Indian Ocean were
depopulated to make way for an American base, the Government will ask
the courts today to ban the inhabitants from ever returning home.

So after the forced evictions the Chagos Islanders finally win permission to return home in a judgement from the High Court. Later Jack Straw issued a banning order, once again overturned in the High Court. Now the Government is appealing to reverse that ruling.

Come on guys, the original banishment wsa wrong in and of itself, simply suck it up and let them return home.
