Rent Your Parking Space

This is a little something I’ve been paid to write about elsewhere but I think it’s interesting over and above that. Peasy.com.

It’s an online market where you can either rent or rent out any parking space you might have or desire. A driveway for example. Apparently a space near a station can make as much as £3,000 a year.

I’m not quite sure whether this will enrage greenies (making it easier to park might mean an increase in the use of cars) or placate them (making it easier to park near a station might reduce the use of cars).

Anyway, maximising the use of a scarce resource seems like a pretty good idea. Anyone actually used it? I’d love to know how efficient or not it actually is.

(No, I haven’t been paid to post about it here.)

  1. I can’t get it to work – I tried four postcodes and all I got was a collection of press releases.

You have to register with an awful amount of personal details just to search, a possible information harvesting website if ever I saw it.

Heard about these guys a while ago on a news report accomapanied by snivelling from the taxman rather than greens. It is certainly a great idea and a natural p2p business.
Only problem is this Worstallanche seems to have knocked out their website.

  4. Well, that is the question now isn’t it….

Very good distillation of the quandry facing Greens world-wide on many topics:

  5. Hi guys,
I came across your posts and am actually one of the people behind Peasy.com. We’ve taken user comments into account so now you only have to sign-up to book a space, send a message, or negotiate the price. you can see this if you search for parking near to ‘Barnet’ for example.
Matthew – if you could let me know what postcodes aren’t working that would be great?
And if you have any other comments, suggestions or improvements feel free to let me know.
    Thanks

  6. Is this not just a copy of parkatmyhouse.com?
Same idea just a few months too late?

  7. Nothing wrong with being a few months later – Google arrived 4 years after Yahoo.
