Broadband not in yet. Working on a mobile modem which is on GPRS….236 kbs I think.

How did anyone ever get anything done on dial up?

  1. What’s the weather like today? Bloody freezing here in Bath with frost and fog.

  2. I thought that recently when using a dialup modem, and I think it’s probably not just that we are used to much higher speed, but websites are now designed for broadband. Even this site has loads of images and graphics which have to load up.
One trick I found worked (slightly counter-intuitively) is to (say with firefox) have loads of webpages loading at the same time. This maximises your download capacity, and whilst you’re reading one the other is downloading.

  3. 236? 56!

  4. Dial up? I’m still trying to. That’s why it takes a day and a half to get round the sites you probably do before breakfast.

  5. The Al-Garve. Hm.

  6. My ADSL line should be being installed this evening, the last few months I too have been using dialup. These days it’s good for nothing except checking email.
