Well, nice that they’re beginning to think of this:
The Health & Safety Executive has pledged to cut the £2bn annual
cost of complying with its regulations by a quarter over the next four
years. It is the first time that the agency, which is in charge of
enforcing health and safety rules in workplaces, has acknowledged that
its activities tie businesses up in unnecessary red tape.
But 2 billion a year? That looks like a remarkably low number. Perhaps they’re only using the direct cost rather than the full one, including all of the things we don’t do because we’re too busy filing paperwork?
