Iron Maiden

I know I’m a little out of touch on such things but do these guys really still exist?

IRON MAIDEN, one the world’s best-selling heavy metal bands, has put
its contract with Sanctuary Group up for review amid talks to take its
business to Andy Taylor, the music group’s ousted co-founder and former
chief executive.

The loss of Iron Maiden would be a severe blow to Sanctuary. The
band, famously spotted by Mr Taylor in a London pub in 1979, are its
oldest client. The discussions come ahead of the European release next
week of A Matter of Life and Death, Iron Maiden’s latest
album, and the start of a world tour in October, which promise to make
the band a particularly significant contributor to Sanctuary’s
near-term profits.

I can imagine them playing the memorial circuit, playing the old hits to 40 somethings for nostalgia reasons, but does anyone actually look forward to the new album? I mean, I thought the lead singer was an airline pilot now? How heavy metal is that?

(Or am I just getting confused here?)

I for one look forward to Monday’s album.
In terms of the effect on Sanctuary, the band are still signed to EMI, so although it will have an effect, it won’t be anywhere near as significant as the article implies.

He’s not only an airline pilot, he’s also an olympic class fencer. And he’s acted in at least one TV episode. He certainly lives life to the full!
I heard last week that Iron Maiden had been on the cover of Kerrang magazine more than any other band, so yes, they really are still that popular.

  3. They still get younger fans. People too young to even have been alive in their heydey…
They had a bit of a revival after the big nu-metal thing and the kids discovered how much better NWOBHM is…
They do drink more tea than beer today though.

  4. I’m only thirty something and I think they are great.
