Helena Kennedy

At last, a decent article over at Comment is Free. Baroness Kennedy’s speech on the changes to the law. Agree with all of it.

  1. Thanks for the heads up on this, it’s amazing how those in power and writing the laws have a presumption of innocence not granted to the rest of society, you only have to look at the treatment of Reid and the drugs find in his house.
It might be a very minor find but if it had been you or I then it would have been treated far differently.

What else would one expect from Tony’s favourite copper? I suspect that if a miniscule amount of a class C drug was found in the “entertainment area”
of my house I wouldn’t get off so easily.
But I return to an earlier thesis of mine. Do Jenni’s articles constitute the opening shots of a war between NuLabour and its media wing? Charlie certainly put the boot into the “liberal media” in a speech at the LSE. He seriously slagged off our favourite newspapers for their naive fixation with civil liberties. I reckon that can’t have gone down too well in the editorial offices of the Guardian, Independent and Observer.
    What does anyone else think?
