Tories and Drugs.

I find this whole thing over Cameron and Osborne and drugs to be completely amazing. Simply stunning. In the sort of metropolitan circles they inhabit, the universities they went to, drugs were and are rife. If they’re serving up a bowl of cocaine (to be sneezed into a la Woody Allen) at their dinner parties that’s one thing but to say that if they have ever had a toot they must retire from public life is another. Do we really want the country run by drug crazed loons? Well, despite the fact that they could hardly do worse, perhaps not. (And what about Blunkett going to Annabel’s? We’re hardly going to claim that sort of thing never happens there now are we?) Equally bad would be someone who has never experimented with anything in their lives and don’t know what the whole fuss is about.

We’re never going to get a sensible policy on drugs in this country (that would be legalization and high taxation) until a few people who do in fact realise that it is the illegality not the drugs themselves that cause the problems. If they have had the occasional toot it would only make me more likely to vote for them.

  1. I’ve rather gone off Davis after this drugs story.

I’m sure Tony, Charles, and David were crazed before they took the drugs.
