Where to Watch the Ashes.

So the Telegraph does a quick call round the foreign correspondents to produce a quick article. Where can expats watch the Ashes?

The place to go in Moscow is Sportsland on Novy Arbat, where England
fans have this summer outnumbered Australians for the first time since
Russia discovered the joys of democracy and the off-drive.

Maybe the place has changed but it certainly used to be a mafia infested den full of prostitutes.

  1. is that Moscow generally?

  2. Or a recommendation?

  3. Novy Arbat is still a bid seedy. There’s a good bookshop there though, the biggest in Russia, which makes it into a lot of Russian language textbooks.
Stari Arbat is better, provided you avoid the pickockets and policemen. Don’t know if you can watch cricket there though.
Tim adds: Most of our drinking was done opposite the bookshop in the Shamrock or round the corner in Rosie O’Grady’s. Decade ago though.

You sure you weren’t confusing them with all those Australians?

  5. Somehow I just knew Tim Newman would be chipping in. Tim must know every seedy dive east of the Oder 😉

  6. It’s when the management of seedy dives recognise who you are that you have to start worrying.
