Steyn and Blogs.

The usual good sense from Mark Steyn but look who he’s using as an information source:

However, Charles Johnson, whose Little Green Footballs website has done
an invaluable job these past three years presenting the ugly truth
about Palestinian death-cultism, reported that he went hunting around
the internet for the usual photographs of deliriously happy Gazans
dancing in the street and handing out sweets to celebrate the latest
addition to the pile of Jew corpses – and, to his surprise, couldn’t
find any.

and a quotation:

Prof Glenn Reynolds, America’s Instapundit, observes that "democratisation is a process, not an event".

Now I know that any number of people dislike those two bloggers, and that’s fine. Diversity means not just a number of voices but a choice of hatreds too. It’s just that two guys with $500 of software and a few years work have turned themselves into quotable media figures. Not the end of the old world nor the beginning of a new one, just an interesting little observation, that’s all.

  1. Er. Quoted by Mark “loony” Steyn though.
The way I see it is that Steyn has to look for internet cranks to find someone who will confirm his vision(s). This is the way these websites have built their popularity, there’s a big market for that.
(“oh look, there’s a guy who’s not afraid to say muslims are killers! Not like boring old traditional MSM…”)

  2. Blimey – was going to write a comment, then realised it would be exactly the same as Mat’s…
It would certainly be more interesting to see LGF or Insty quoted by someone who isn’t on the extreme fringes of the debate.
Tim adds: Will I do or am I also a fringe dweller?
