Political Chicanery

A tale of political skullduggery in Lousiana. Boiled down to essentials, a Dem Congresscritter was thinking of switching to Republican. So everyone gathers round, persuades him, donates to his campaign funds, essentially sucks up like mad. So he faces no Democratic challenger in the primaries. OK, and the Republicans aren’t going to put anyone up as they have no chance there, anyway, the guy is leaning their way. Then, half an hour before nominations close, he stands for re-election, as a Republican.
Bwaahahahah. He gets all those Democratic funds plus is running virtually unopposed (no doubt there are a few of the inevitable fringe candidates, but no other Rep or Dem in the general election.)
What an operator!!!
Now, if you actually thought that politicians were honest and upright people, you might think that this was a betrayal of trust (although that would then have to extend to all of those who have switched parties after an election: Jeffries wasn’t it who lost the Reps control of the Senate?). Then again, if you were more rational about them (like had, perhaps, read some public choice economics) and knew that they were simply out for whatever they could get, then this sounds about normal.
Sharp practice? Sure. But if you really do think the D party is sufficiently unfit to govern that you are going to leave, why not take a chunk of the enemy’s money with you?
