Bernard Levin, probably the best post war British journalist has finally succumbed to Alzheimer’s. Damn that man could write. Try to pick up a paperback of his collected columns and see what we’ve been missing these past ten years or so.
The Telegraph’s obituary seems fair and balanced (although he wrote for The Times) but I must admit to a little chuckle over this:
He never married, and by his own account “never philandered”, but had several “serious, deep and important” relationships with women, notably Arianna Stassinopoulos, the Greek hostess and writer who subsequently moved to America and, as Arianna Huffington, moved into Republican politics.
