You get what you pay for

One of the things that is sadly true in this life is that you get what you pay for. Another way of putting it is that there is no such thing as a free lunch. You cannot, as an example, go off and buy a service at a rock bottom price and then expect to get a top notch performance of that service. Allow me to give you an example: I've a friend who buys and sells cars. No, not as a dealer, rather, he goes out and looks for exotic cars for people. When he finds what they want he buys it for them and thin ships it to them.

He's used a lot of different auto shipping companies over the years, as you might imagine, and he's always happy, absolutely delighted, to pay top price to buy their services. For as he says, when you go bargain shopping for Auto Transport you end up not getting what you're paying for.

For example, if you start taking the lowest possible offer then you're not actually going to be getting someone who wants to transport your car: they just want any car to make up a full load. So you're most certainly not going to get personal service in that example. Further, it always used to infuriate him when the lower the price the wider the timescale for pickup: could be anything from one day to a week.

And finally, the cheaper the offer the more likely they are to fail to even pick up the car: for maybe someone else will offer them just a little more money for that last place on the truck?

So my friends advice is to always pay the right price to get the right service: just like he says about beer. Sure, there's cheap stuff out there but why not drink something you actually enjoy?

  1. A business friend used to have a notice for customers, saying they could have any two of the following: Quick, Good, Cheap.
