Cynthia Hampton is widely being pointed to as the aide with whom Senator John Ensign was having an affiar. The Senator has admitted to an affair, but not pointed to Cynthia Hampton (at least, not so far) as being the affairee (if that's how you describe someone having an affair. If not, you should be able to).
admitted to having an affair with a married woman. He said it was "the
worst thing" he has ever done in his life, though he has no intention
of resigning due to the extramarital affair.
The woman in
question was not named by Ensign, but multiple reports name her as
46-year-old Cynthia Hampton. According to those reports, the affair was
well known in Nevada political circles.
Another one of those things well known in political circles, but one of those things that aren't revealed to the plebs like us, eh? But there's one more thing about this Cynthia Hampton thing:
I belive the affair was with Cynthia Hampton. Cynthia is the wife of former (top) Ensign staffer Doug Hampton. The Hamptons both worked in DC at the time.
I don't know, maybe I'm a little too European about these things but I'll explain that in a moment:
Nevada Senator John Ensign has confessed to an affair after his
mistress' husband approached him about money, according to reports.
Senator John Ensign, married to wife Darlene, has admitted to
having an affair last year with a campaign aide when he and his wife
were separated. The aide, Cindy Hampton, was married to John's former
legislative aide, Doug Hampton.
According to John, the affair lasted several months until John
reconciled with his wife, at which time he paid Cynthia a severance
package and went his separate way.
I'm not sure that I'm worried about married people having affairs. It's their own vows that they're breaking, after all. And the Senator won't be the first person to have had sex with someone who works for him. However, I rather think that an employer has something of a duty of care to the employee…including not trying to seduce the spouse of an employee.
Weird way of looking at it but there you are.
