Maytag recall

There's a Maytag recall going on. Apparently Maytag will have to recall over 1.5 million refrigerators because there's a risk that they will spontaneously combust. That is, burst into flames.

That's actually a pretty good reason to have a recall, don't you think? You rather hope that a refrigerator will keep things cool, not burn them.

This morning an enormous
Maytag recall is announced. The fire hazard has prompted a Maytag
Refrigerator recall, which affects 1.6 million units of refrigerators.

The
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Maytag announced that
the company recalls the refrigerators that affect 1.6 million units.
It's a voluntary recall and includes Maytag®, Jenn-Air®, Amana®,
Admiral®, Magic Chef®, Performa by Maytag® and Crosley® brand
refrigerators.

The reason for the Maytag recall is that:

Maytag Corp. have issued a refrigerator recall, 1.6 million will be
affected by this recall. The problem is because of a relay; this will
cause the refrigerator’s compressor to overheat and could start a fire.
The company have received a number of reports about this fault.

Maytag Corp. is working closely with the U.S. Consumer Product
Safety Commission, to make certain that the recall is handed in the
correct way. Maytag have received 41 reports of the relay problem, 16
of those reported damage to their property due to smoke damage in their
kitchen.

It's worth noting that you don't actually need to physically send your refrigerator back to Maytag. They will come around and fix it in your house as a part of the recall.

I have one of these refrigerators. Maytag came yesterday and did the repair in 10 minutes. Went shopping this morning and filled up the frig and freezer and now it no longer works. No new appointments for 3 days and NOPE they will not replace the food. I will NEVER buy MAYTAG again. They broke my frig and will not pay for the food spoiling. Go figure. No wonder companies are going out of business.

I have one of these fridges . The company claims only two were broken in CANADA. I quess that makes me the third fridge My fridge broke down two days before the recal started
The company refuses to compensate for the food . I stressed that the fridge broke because of a defective part that on recal.
I stress they are not honest to the public about how common this defect is with the fridges .
how many people have the same problem

  3. Have replaced three of these relays since owning this heap of junk. Now we find out that there is a recall an Maytag doesen’t seem to care. there won’t be another Maytag in this house again or a Whirlpool either.

  4. I just had the frigdge repairman fix the starter and Maytag refuses to compensate for the food loss. Even though the problem was their liablity they just quote their refund policy which states they will not refund the food loss.
I am arguing since the repair was because of a defective part not normal wear and tear they should be responsible for the food.
I will not buy Maytag or Whirlpool again
At one time they were concidered the best for dependable but not anymore.
Anyone else experienceing the same problem with the maytag recal
