French art models strike nude pose

French art models braved near freezing temperatures to bring attention to their strike for greater recognition and more pay.  Twelve models posed naked in the courtyard of a French government building to highlight their demands.

"It was only because of our motivation that we’re able to ignore the cold," said Magali Auret, a 27-year-old video-art student who has been a part-time art-class model for seven years. Magali lasted ten minutes without shivering then she pulled on a kimono and hobbled over barefoot for a cup of mulled wine.

The strike came about after a government order banning the acceptance of tips was extended to the models at the beginning of the school year.  As the tips from posing make up to 25% of the models income that are natural very unhappy.

Christophe Girard, deputy Paris mayor for cultural affairs said, "The schools are just applying the law.
It might sound bureaucratic and a bit severe, but there are laws against being paid in cash for work in government buildings."

The deputy mayor also said, "We’ll sit down and work this out. A little increase to cover their lost tips wouldn’t be scandalous. Regardless, I salute their courage posing in the nude a few days before Christmas."

And so say all of us.
