Michael Savage – Autism

Michael Savage took to his radio show yesterday to defend his recent comments about autism.

"My comments about autism were meant to boldly awaken parents and children to the medical community’s attempt to label too many children or adults as ‘autistic,’. Many children are being victimized by being diagnosed with an ‘illness,’ which may not exist in all cases."

"There is no definitive medical diagnosis for autism, none. It’s all subjective.  There is no autism epidemic.  Autism in its true form is a tragedy for the child and his parents. Let the truly autistic be treated. Let the falsely diagnosed be free."

His statements are intended to clarify his comments from last week when he said autistic children were "brats" who hadn’t been told "to cut the act out."

  1. You people, lighten up! In the first place, if you ever listened to Michael Savage’s radio show you would know several things… 1) He is not an MD expert in autism, 2) He IS controversial 3) Under the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, he is entitled to express his opinion. What has happened to our society that we immediately want to demand the gallows for anyone that expresses an opinion that insults or incenses us? Sheesh! If only we were as passionate towards the Islamic jihadists that want to KILL us all…including autistic children! GET A GRIP!!

  2. I agree everyone does have their right to their own opinion, I don’t think one autistic parent would disagree with that!! But, we don’t need uneducated people spreading that opinion on people our kids will have to deal with everyday! Also, obviously you don’t have an autistic child or I promise you would feel differently!! We are the only people we have to defend them! So, we have a grip and will keep fighting everyday!

Come on, Ed! You are half-way to understanding the 1st Amendment. What you don’t understand is that he is also entitled to reap the consequences for his free speech. Which amendment guarantees his job?
    >>>1) He is not an MD expert in autism
So why is he spreading misinformation? He should STFU and be responsible with his power as shock jock or worry about losing his job.

  4. Jenny McCarthy’s response to Savage’s remarks:
Jenny, alongside the many others who have had their lives impacted by autism, was appalled by the statement. What would she like to happen? “I think a great way for an apology is to be sat down and educated about it,” Jenny said. “I’d love to just quietly [sit down with him and] educate him on the facts. It was clear he doesn’t know anything about autism”
