GE Microwave Recall

There’s a GE microwave recall going on. GE is calling back for repair a number of recently sold microwave ovens:

General Electric  is recalling 92,000 microwave ovens because of a fire hazard, the firm and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. The recall includes GE, GE Profile and Kenmore models sold from 2000 through 2003. The door switch on the devices can overheat, though no injuries have been reported. The ovens were manufactured in the U.S.

I thought that last line was interesting: no one can blame the recall on Chinese imports.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of about
92,000 General Electric built-in combination wall and microwave ovens.
Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately unless
otherwise instructed. The door switch in the microwave oven can
overheat and ignite plastic components in the control area, posing a
fire hazard to consumers. The lower thermal oven does not pose a hazard.GE
is aware of 35 incidents of minor property damage and one incident in
which a fire damaged adjacent kitchen cabinets. No injuries have been
reported.

The actual ovens involved in hte GE microwave recall are the following:

The recall includes GE combination microwave and conventional
built-in wall ovens sold under the following brand names: GE, GE
Profile™ and Kenmore. The ovens were sold in white, black, bisque and
stainless steel. The brand name is printed on the lower left corner on
the front of the microwave door. The following model and serial numbers
can be found inside the microwave oven on the left interior wall.

I have a GE Microwave Model JES1290ML01 that almost catches on fire. The inside plate on the right side sparked, fired up with bright light, etc..
    Is it a recall model?

I have a GE microwave JES1146BF001 that is approximately 5 years old. It started turning itself on and keeps going up by 30 second increments and the cord will start to get hot. Is there a recall on it?

  15. That is a great indigation about its moral services regarding conumers. Recall of microwave owens seems bad sign but GE get recall all microwave owens and launched new product for consumers.

I also have a GE JES1290ML01 convection microwave oven, manufactured 4/07. It blew sparks and flame out of the cardboard plate on the right sidewall so I took it to a local GE repair shop. They could not get it to do the same so gave it back to me, with a repair bill, and said nothing is wrong and it’s safe to use. Having spent enough on it, I don’t want to throw it away or add to landfill. We’ve continued to use it and are not always there while it runs but it periodically does the same, usually while popping popcorn. Today it happened again, very loud, large flame and sparks. The cardboard plate is burnt. Tell me this isn’t an issue!
