Say It’s Not True is the new single from Queen. It was released on Dec !st, World AIDS day and you can download Say It’s Not True from the Queen site here.
Background to the story:
Queen have released a new single for free to mark World AIDS Day tomorrow (December 1).
The band, whose lead singer Freddie Mercury died of an AIDS-related illness in 1991, have been in the studio with Paul Rodgers recording ‘Say It’s Not True’, their first new song in 10 years.
"By making the song available for free, we hope to help Nelson Mandela with his campaign to get across the message that no one is safe from infection," drummer Roger Taylor said in a statement.
"We have to be aware, we have to protect ourselves and those we love. The song follows the line of Mr Mandela’s personal message: ‘It’s in our own hands to bring a stop to this’."
Taylor wrote ‘Say It’s Not True’ as a gift to Mandela, and originally performed it for him in 2003 with Brian May and Dave Stewart at the inaugural 46664 concert in Cape Town.
And more:
Queen have announced the band’s first new recording in 10 years.
Queen and new frontman Paul Rodgers are to release the single, Say It’s Not True, on Saturday.
Recorded to mark World Aids Day, it will be available as a free download.
Queen’s
Roger Taylor, who wrote the song, said: "By making the song available
for free, we hope to help Nelson Mandela with his campaign to get
across the message that no-one is safe from infection.
"We have to be aware, we have to protect ourselves and those we love.
"The song follows the line of Mr Mandela’s personal message ‘It’s in our own hands to bring a stop to this’."
Queen’s
last studio recording took place in 1997 when May, Taylor and bassist
John Deacon reunited to record No-One But You, released in 1998, in
tribute to former frontman Freddie Mercury, who died of an Aids-related
illness in 1991.
You can see the Say It’s Not True video at the Queen site here.
There’s also some things about it here at Brian May’s blog (yes, he really does write a blog). And he also says that, yes, it’s OK to post it to YouTube. And if Say It’s Not True can go on YouTube, then it can go here as well. So here’s Queen’s first single in a decade.
Gotta say, the harmonies Paul Rodgers uses are very different indeed. Gonna be fun to hear the rest of their stuff.
