Of course we Brits know Rockin’ All Over the World as the quintessential Status Quo song (while people from other parts of the world will be going "Status friggin’ Who?"). So to kick off, here is indeed Quo’s version of Rocking All Over the World:
However, it wasn’t original to them at all. Rather, it was written by John Fogarty, of Creedence Clearwater Revival fame:
Rockin’ All Over the World" is a rock song by John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival. It made its debut on Fogerty’s first solo album in 1975. Status Quo recorded a their own, heavier arrangement of Fogerty’s song for their 1973 album Rockin’ All Over the World. It is this version which is best known and most played worldwide.
At Live Aid, Status Quo began their set (and thus the event itself, being the opening band) with "Rockin’ All Over the World".
Here’s the lyrics:
John Fogerty – Rockin’ All Over The World Lyrics
Oooh! Ah!
Well, a-here-ee-yup, a-here-ee-yup, a-here we go,
Four in the mornin’, justa hittin’ the road,
Here we go-oh! Rockin’ all over the world! Yeah.
Well, a-geedeeup, a-geedeeup, a-get away,
We’re goin’ crazy, and we’re goin’ today, here we go-oh!
Rockin’ all over the world!
[Chorus:]
Well I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it,
I la-la-like it, la-la-la, here we go-oh! Rockin’ all over the
world!
Yeah! Yeah!
Well, I’m gonna tell your Mama what your Daddy do,
He come out of the night with your dancin’ shoes,
Here we go-oh! Rockin’ all over the world! Yeah.
[Chorus x5]
Not the most complex of lyrics I think we’ll all agree but makes a decent boogie, don’it?
And we’d better have a version from the man who wrote the song as well, don’t you think?
Oh, and, bonus Rockin’ All Over the World factoid:
This song is now a Southend United FC anthem after they began singing
"Shrimping All Over The World" to the tune of "Rockin’ All Over The
World" after the 2004 LDV vans throphy final.
