Is there nothing that people won’t make into a competition?

People has ben ruinning a "Sexiset Fan" competition in association with the MLB (Major League Baseball for those unaquainted with the cure habits of the colonial cousins). This of course means that it isn’t in fact the sexiest fan, it’s People’s sexiest fan from among those who follow rounders rather than an adult’s game.

But the front runner appears to be:

People maggie’s “Sexiest Fan Alive” front-runner credits his
nationwide group of supporters for vaulting him into the “Sexiest”
pennant race and perhaps leading him to the title this week.

“The contest has really taken on a life of its own,” said Piela, a
Norfolk homey, who now catches his beloved Boston team from his new
home in Duluth, Ga. “My wife and I have been having a absolute ball
with it, reconnecting with people we haven’t talk to in years,
convincing them to go to People’s Web site and voting for me.”

Major League Baseball and PEOPLE Magazine today announced the nine
finalists in the nationwide search for "The Sexiest Fan Alive."

Selected from more than 2,000 entries, the finalists represent a cross section of baseball’s most passionate and loyal fans.

A panel of judges, including celebrity guest judge Greg Grunberg of
NBC’s Heroes, reviewed the entries and selected nine finalists, one of
whom will go on to be named the "Sexiest Fan Alive" on November 16th.

Fans can visit http://www.PeopleSexiestFan.com to vote for the finalist they
think should receive the coveted title. Voting takes place from October
12th through October 26th.
