Michael Palin

Michael Palin has already travelled around the world, from pole to pole
and across the Himalayas. Here he explains what drove him to make his
latest odyssey, from Estonia to Albania – across the ‘new Europe’.

Because he’s already done all the interesting journeys.

    Missing link?
It’s hard not to like Palin, especially after this subversively Rumsfeldian jaunt.

  2. I think it is an interesting journey! The little that many British people already know about Eastern Europe probably comes from watching Eurovision. I’d certainly like to know more about Estonia etc, other than strategic voting and an overzealous use of spandex combined with native drumming.

  3. Also the fellow’s getting on a bit now, there comes a time when one needs at least an actual bed.
    I’m looking forward to it.
As for ‘Hard not to like Palin’, he’s my mother’s Desert Island Man.

  4. The part of his Pole to Pole journey when he was in the USSR a month or so before it collapsed is hilarious. Even the Russians I know cringe at the state of the place back then, and his closing statement about Russia when he boards the boat to Turkey is as accurate a statement to describe how I felt about Russia each time I left as I have come across.

  5. These are interesting comments and some of you seem to want to learn more about Estonia. I just ran into a website about Estonia the other day – it is a Documentary about Estonia’s Singing Revolution:
