More 419 Scammers in the Newspapers

Anyone read the classifieds, the job ads in the UK newspapers? I’m interested in finding out whether there are more examples of these fake jobs ads turning up.

At the moment we know they’re in the Irish papers; the latest spotting is from the Donegal News.

Anyone get the dead tree version of any of the UK papers and can have a look see for any there?

  1. I’ll check today’s Scotsman over lunch and post the results.

  2. On a related note here’s a new 419 variant – http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/08/23/hotmail_hijack_scam/

  3. Nothing seen, though there was only about 1/3 page of classified job ads today.
I would point out that it is not actually likely that these ads are linked with Advanced Fee Fraud – the Nigerian 419 or Dutch Lottery (among others) scams. The money transfer method in those is that the dupe deliberately hands over their cash, often via Western Union, having been convinced that they will net some fabulous and entirely mythical return.
These are “mule recruitement” ads, most probably for transfer of money from accounts compromised through phishing attacks or banking trojans.
BTW – I note that ASH Scotland are recruiting for a new Chief Exec at approx £50k. You’d think, as the health Gestapo seem to have won the smoking battle and moved on to attacking drinking alcohol, that it could have been made part-time?
