Yet Even More Gender Pay Gap

It’s amazing how things get a little changed in the reporting of them, isn’t it?

Here’s Harriet Harman in the Commons yesterday:

It is true to say that the pay gap between women working full-time and
men working full-time is about 12 per cent., but the pay gap between
women working part-time and men working full-time is 40 per cent.,

Here’s Tom Shipp in The Guardian:

"We also need to tackle the pay gap between men and women which stands
at 12% in full-time work and 40% in part-time work and contributes to
the unequal distribution of work in the home."

D’ye think Tom would understand the difference there, even if we explained it to him?

  1. but the pay gap between women working part-time and men working full-time is 40 per cent.,
That has got to be the one of the most USELESS statements I have encountered since PMQs today.
How about comparing part-time men vs part-time women?
How about comparing women NOT of childbearing age vs. women of childbearing age? Huh? Huh?

  2. I doubt Tom would understand even if the lesson were applied with a baseball bat.

  3. The one that Pommygranate has under his bed?
