Margot and Economics

Truly, this is why we have the whole European Union thing. To provide us all with a good laugh:

The Commission visited Oporto in Portugal for the new Portuguese
Presidency and the city was “showing off”: sunny weather but not too
hot, a glittering river beneath green and lush slopes, houses with a
patina…I stayed on to go to a university meeting 300 students in a
discussion about European identity. They were well prepared with
questions to both me and the Portuguese Minister and it was clear that
they worry about their chances of getting a job – even with a
university degree, even within a booming economy.

What booming fucking economy?

The place is screwed: interest rates are too high, as is the exchange rate. Neither can be changed for Portugal is in the euro. Welcome to Euro LaLa land, where 0.6% annual GDP growth is "booming". Margot, it’s you and yours which have caused this but it’s a bit bloody much for you to say that it’s a good result.

  3. The EU is growing. No need to swear. .

  4. Did TEBAF visit a different Oporto to the one I did last february or has there been a massive amount of urban reforestation? I mean I don’t personally recall much greenness on the banks of the Douro in Oporto. True if you go a few miles upstream its nice and green but Oporto, being a densely populated city, would seem to lack “green and lush slopes”. Why would you be complaining in english when you should be complaining in portuguese?Quite odd indeed.
Maybe that makes too much sense.
