The Reactionary News Network is pleased to announce that the niece of the Late Countess Longford has been elected as Deputy Leader of the political party which represents the patriotic working classes of this country.

Clearly her alliance with the scion of the Earl of Carlisle’s family paid dividends. We wish Mrs. Dromey well in her endeavours and can see that she will have no problems in working with that product of the Scottish upper middle classes, Mr. Gordon Brown. As ever, noblesse will oblige and her gracious manners will put him entirely at his ease in the presence of such a social superior. The Manse is all very well but there’s no substitute for proper nobility now, is there?

We have wondered in the past whether the lumpenproletariat will ever select one of their own number to represent them and are glad to be confirmed in our worldview, that of course this would be nonsense, for class will out, eh, not to say the benefits of a private education.

    The aristocratic ancestry of Harriet Harman is surely acceptable given her marital connection to the trade union movement but what sort of engaging message is sent out to parents about New Labour and grammar schools just after Cameron and the Conservatives dumped on grammar schools?

    I had to check Wikipedia to see that a solicitor really can become a QC. I take it it’s one of those cheapo-cheapo QCs that MPs can get by virtue of being MPs? I mean, surely such a dimbo can’t earn a QC?

    Hold on. He’s appointed her Party Chairman. Her husband was the Party Treasurer who was kept in the dark about corruption and peerages. Isn’t that a trifle, um, smelly?

    Harriet Harman on the Iraq war in a Q&A session on 12 June during the hustings for the Deputy Leadership of the Labour Party:
    Question: Is it time to set a timetable for withdrawal form Iraq and how do you restore trust in the government?
    Harriet Harman: With a new leadership we have to rebuild the party and win the full trust and confidence of the British people and I think we have to recognise that one of the main reasons that many people left the party is Iraq and one of the things that has undermined trust and confidence in the government has been the question of Iraq.
    I voted for the war in the belief that there were weapons of mass destruction. That was a genuinely held view but a mistaken one so it is right to acknowledge that.
    I do not think the question of Iraq can or should be swept under the carpet. As to the situation now I think it is right to support our armed forces and the work that they are doing and I hope that increasingly that will consist of supporting the Iraqi police and army and that there will be a withdrawal as soon as possible. Thereafter we will need to look at the whole the question of Iraq including the planning for the aftermath of the invasion.
