That BBC Bias Report

I have to admit to a little bit of surprise at the way in which all sorts of people are hailing that report into bias at the BBC:

Discussing an attack on the BBC a few months ago by
the editor of the Daily Mail, who had accused the corporation of being
"in every corpuscle of its corporate body, against the values of
conservatism", the report rather too smugly observes: "This is the
latest of several accusations of a political conspiracy levelled by
those on the Right – a notion which few who have worked at the BBC
would recognise."

I may not know as many ex-BBC
people as Mr Bridcut, for I have never worked there, but it has always
surprised me how, once they are out of the organisation, so many
inmates find it easy to admit that a prevailing wind of Leftism blew
strongly, and, if they wished to remain in productive work, they knew
it was best to sail with it.

This isn’t to pick on Simon Heffer particularly, he’s just the first I’ve come across today talking about it. But why did anyone ever think that the BBC would not be partial? How, in fact, could it ever have been impartial?

Tax funded bureaucracy in favour of tax funded bureaucracies.

Hardly a surprise now, is it?

In my experience, Beebers admit to it in private but not in public.

  2. I remember thinking something similar when I heard Ross Clark being interviewed on the Today programme about his book on red tape. I’ve never heard such an aggressive interview on a books spot. Then I realised that it was, as you say, bureaucrats defending their patch.

  3. Er, I don’t think you have to be a leftie to be in favour of tax funded bureaucracies. See David Cameron, passim.
Tim adds: You trying to imply that the Boy Dave (C) is not a leftie?

Funny that no person asked the question what changes were made to the report before it was issued. I bet the trustees made changes – my own reports for the last 7 years have been changed to protect the guilty.
