Michael Bloomberg

Speculation that Michael Bloomberg might run for President:

Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire businessman and mayor of New York,
is building the foundations for an audacious third-party presidential
candidacy that would transform the 2008 race for the White House.

The Daily Telegraph has established that a senior aide to Mr Bloomberg
has held three lunch meetings with officials from the Independence
Party, during which detailed discussions took place as to how a
third-party bid could be launched.

If he runs, as suggested, as a fiscal conservative and social liberal (whether he actually is is another matter) there’s an awful lot of disaffected Republicans out there who might offer him support on the fiscal side alone.

If he keeps his rather straight talking persona it might actually make the race interesting:

Utters now-famous
quote about his hobbies: "Theater, dining, and chasing women. Let me
put it this way: I’m a single, straight billionaire in Manhattan. What
do you think?"

  1. The same boyo once also said that illegal immigration was good because it kept his golf club’s fairways looking nice.
    Not exactly a Buchananite.

  2. Yeah, unfortunately for Bloomberg, all those disaffected Republicans who’d vote for him are also in Manhattan. Outside NYC? Not so much.
