Rip Off Britain

A really quitemarvellously confused set of reactions here to the fact that British tourist attractions and theme parks cost more than those abroad:

Britain’s leading attractions are charging visitors more than almost
any other country in the world, raising concerns that foreign tourists
and British families are being "ripped off".

That we have more expensive land than most other countries (thank you, planning system) means that of course costs will be higher. However:

The disparity in prices comes as Holiday Which?, the consumer magazine,
criticises the majority of British theme parks for charging families
too much and subjecting them to overly long queues.

Err, overly long queues mean that prices are too low, not too high.

However, Elena Dalrymple, the editor of Mother &
Baby magazine, who has run a campaign against high charges for
children, said free sites were often overcrowded.

"The Science Museum is absolutely wonderful for children but it is rammed at weekends," she said.

You mean that people overconsume subsidised goods?

Amazing the things we learn, eh?
