Chavistas

Gen Alberto Mueller, an advisor to Mr Chávez, told The Sunday
Telegraph: "Some communal groups have already received military
training. They’ll train in their own neighbourhoods and will be
equipped with any arms – guns, grenades, knifes – the community can
provide. We have a right to defend ourselves, like the UK has, and be
sure we’ll do it."

Well, not quite sure that here in the UK we would advocate widespread arming of the chavs to defend the country. We would more likely view that as the creation of a set of bully boys for those who armed them.

But clearly, the situation with chavistas is different from that with chavs. People like Richard Gott tell us so endlessly.

  1. You have to be impressed by Mr Chávez. This is textbook socialism. I wonder when he will start the purges with death squads and gulags. (And our left-wing press either denying or blaming America for the atrocities).

  2. Have to say that even I, who not really having paid attention, hoped he was a soft-socialist who was likely to increase state oil revenues and run some social programmes, worry that he’ll be gearing up for some good, organised, bullying and oppression.
