Yes, it matters. The climate of fear in Britain is intensifying. People who have never had a racist thought are now steering clear of ethnic minorities because they know that being denounced, however falsely, for racism will have dire consequences.
Last night two “racism” stories topped the news. Would the Tory front-bencher have had to resign if he had criticised “some” white soldiers for slacking? Would a white female chav who grabbed a policeman by the balls have been a figure of sympathy? Yes, there is rampant racism in Britain, but not of the kind Yasmin purports to fear.
I suspect she is mainly afraid of losing the ability to intimidate ticket inspectors with false allegations when she sits without a ticket in first class – http://www.newstatesman.com/200510100002. It’s long past time to close this witch-hunt down, but Yasmin wants more, more, she’s still not satisfied.
