Yes, even more.

Up to 80 businesses and hundreds of residents could be evicted from the
London Olympic site next year as part of a huge relocation exercise
adding an extra £1 billion to the cost of the 2012 Games.

1) Let’s regenerate an area by clearing it of productive businesses. We the bureaucrats know best, of course, for the businesses that we think will occupy the sites in 7 years time will be much, much, better, oh yes.

2) Paris still want this? Has Athens got an empty stadium or two? How about Sydney? Anyone? Bueller?

  1. The businesses on the olympics site weren’t that productive. Mostly quite low value added businesses occupying premises of low quality.
    Most of the decent businesses have been found alternative sites. Those that haven’t are businesses leasing premises.
    The actual process and compensation involved has been quite professional for a government agency…
