Right On!

Sir Simon:

Libertarians in Britain are a disenfranchised class.

None of the major three ever seems to be calling for less government now do they?

…a typical "consensual crime" in which the greatest harm is caused by the manner in which the state tries to suppress it.

It applies to so much, doesn’t it? Voluntary economic acts between consenting adults…minimum wage laws, prostitution, drugs…

  1. Sir Simon may be right about the three big parties, but given they all want various degrees of state funding it is hardly likely that they would want to roll back the state.
There is of course one party that is working for a more minimal state. One that does believe that the agent of choice is the individual rather than the expert and the committee.
It is not big yet, but it is getting there. That party of course is the UK Independence Party.
However I suspect that the rather grand Sir Simon would rather walk over hot coals before he would recognise the fact. Can you imagine the reaction of his dinner party friends? It would be like a Bateman cartoon, “The man who accepted that UKIP might have a point”.

  2. Good God, Jenkins writing something sensible. I just looked out the window to see if the sky had turned pink.
