The Geography Cup 2006

There’s this interesting thing called The Geography Cup 2006. An interesting game for a Friday afternoon perhaps. You get to place 13 (?) outlines of countries onto a map of the globe. Points are awarded and the aim is to find out whether the Brits or the Yanks get the most right answers. Runs until the end of the year.

The Geography Cup 2006.

Now, of course, there must be no cheating. No entering on the other side for example and then deliberately messing up (heaven forfend that anyone would do that!).

I do note that currently we Brits have less than one fifth the number of contestants (about right for population size) but a higher score. Grin 🙂

I cannot enter as my ISP is obviously from outside either country, but do let me know how you get on!

Server very slow and more often than not conks out half way through the game. Not recommended for hypertensives or people who keep thinking that Bosnia is Croatia.

Went to join Team USA but the sign-on process isn’t working for me. I might try again later; can’t have a bunch of Asians beating us!

  3. “Reuters” ran a story about this yesterday, so the site’s probably experiencing pretty heavy traffic compared to usual. I’ve been trying since then to get on and nothing comes up.

  4. It wouldn’t allow me to register. I live in Northern Ireland, but it says I live outside the UK!
Could the Geography Cup organizers be confusing the U.K. with England?
    Bloody typical foreigners!

It also seems to believe that my laptop resting on my couch is outside the UK. Last time I looked out of the window the couch was located about 12 miles due east of Manchester. Hmmm…

  6. Same thing I’m getting Emily, only I’m in America and it says I’m not!!!! I’m frustrated as I can’t wait to answer that Portugal lies on the African coast and that China is South America’s most populous country- anything to help my country! 🙂

  7. Oddly enough, the US is leading now: apparently our self-selected geeks are able to keep up with the UK’s!
