School Vouchers

Bring on the school voucher system then!

Sweden is not alone in encouraging competition from independent
schools. Parents in Holland and Denmark have a legal right to state
funding if they prefer private education. In the Netherlands, about 70
per cent of pupils attend privately-run schools that are state funded.
In Denmark, support from only 40 parents is needed to secure state
funding for a private school, and about 14 per cent of pupils attend
independent schools financed by a voucher worth 85 per cent of the
per-pupil cost in the state sector.

I’m still waiting for someone to offer a cogent argument against such ideas. Anyone?

  1. I would prefer a Tax Credit system instead. However, a voucher system would be an improvement over the currents system ONLY if there is no strings attached to the vouchers. I suspect that the government would try to regulate/control any school accepting the vouchers. We would end up with the socialist definition of choice – none.

  2. What’s wrong with wholesale privatisation?

Why not just LEND parents the money to send their children to school?
