Good Lord

If the man isn’t mad already he will be by the end of this:

In an attempt to set an ‘awesomely stupid record’, a man listens to the song ‘We Built This City’ for twenty-four hours.

Any contenders for hit singles that would be even worse? My vote would be for ‘Grandad‘ by Clive Dunn.

Herbie Flowers may have done some of the most wonderful bass playing around (Walk on the Wild Side, a lot of T-Rex stuff, etc etc) but if there’s any justice he’ll burn in hell for writing that one.

  1. Having just started to warm to you Tim, for your excellent suggestion in today’s Times that Britain should leave the EU, you then go and spoil it by naming ‘Grandad’ as the worst ever hit single. It’s a lovely tune and the other tracks on the Clive Dunn album from which it came are pretty wonderful too. If you want me to send you a copy, let me know.

  4. Either Stevie Wonder’s rendition of the Schubert ‘Ave Maria’ or Johnny Mathis’s cover of The Skye Boat Song.

If it’s Shania then I’d suggest that it has to be listened to extremely loud on a car stereo with the windows down while driving around a bad area.
