I’m afraid that it really is rapped knuckles for Tom and The Great Redacto this morning (although the latter might be on holiday).
Annunziata Rees-Mogg in The Telegraph today:
If men can do it, so can we. Young females dismiss the damaging effects
on both their health and the future health of any children they bear.
Sclerosis of the liver is a long way off.
Indeed, one would rather hope that sclerosis of the liver is a long way off as it’s not a recognized disease. Cirrhosis however….
Annunziata is the youngest of the Rees-Mogg tribe (and therefore not one that I was at school with) and an aspiring politician (as is her brother Jacob). She should therefore be slightly more up to date with her numbers:
Average wages for females still fall well below their male counterparts
When talking about young women this simply isn’t the case. In fact, in the 16-17 age group, female wages are higher, on average, than male. From there up to the age of 30 there’s very little difference. It’s after that, into the years of childbirth and childcaring that they differ markedly.
As the piece is exactly about young women delaying child bearing and having a good time, perhaps the figures that actually apply to young women delaying child bearing and having a good time should be used?
