So, I wanted to talk to someone in the US Treasury yesterday. Seriously, I don’t mind talking to people about tax when it’s a country I’m not taxed in.
OK, I’m referred to the right guy for my question, but he can’t take the call. Voicemail asks me to email him. He gives his name as Sean Kevlin (or so it sounds). OK @ yadda yadda. Err, no, it bounces.
So I try Shaun, Shawn, are there any other spellings of that name? All bounce back. Hhhm. Anyway, later, I do get ahold of him and get to ask my question. I also ask what I’d got wrong in the email address. Kevelighan.
Now the whole process was reasonably painless, I certainly got my answer when I got the right person, courteous, efficient etc. but just a small query. If you heard "Kevlin" as the pronunciation, would you imagine that spelling? Especially with email, which has to be exact to actually get through?
