As you may have noticed I don’t really write on matters Middle East. The Israel / Palestine thing has been going on all my lifetime andthe news simply seems to get repeated every decade or so. But two things here:
Kofi Annan, the UN secretary-general, said hundreds of millions of
people shared his frustration that the council had taken so long to
act. That inaction has "badly shaken the world’s faith in its authority
and integrity," he said.
That rather assumes that there are hundreds of millions who have faith in the UN’s authority and integrity to be shaken.
The United Nations Security Council finally voted unanimously last night for a resolution to end four weeks of bloodshed between Israel and Hizbollah.
What I don’t see anywhere in the report is a mention that Hizbollah has agreed to the ceasefire.
The resolution also called for the unconditional release of the Israeli soldiers kidnapped by Hizbollah.
Nor to that.
