Blogs Iiiin Spaaace!

(That title should be read in the deep Jim Henson voice that used to introduce the Miss Piggy soap opera. Jus’ sayin’)

Yes, apologies, another weird and wonderful idea from way out there in left field and again, simply too good not to get wider attention.

You’ve heard that radio signals have been flowing out into space ever since the very first broadcast? And that as transmitters have got more powerful, those signals  have been going ever further at those higher strengths?

Then of course there is TV as well: wasn’t the plot of some movie based on that? That all the aliens knew about us was reruns of I Love Lucy or something? (Or was it a Flash Gordon style space hero show? And the actor ends up meeting the aliens or something?)

Now you can broadcast your blog into space. Yes, really, that’s what blogs in space does for you. Can’t see that there’s any fee, they take your RSS feed and send it out to the universe.

Just think what it’s going to be like when the aliens do get here: will they have taken notice of the Daily Kos feed or the Free Republic one? And what would either mean for us normal people?

There was an episode of “Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories” that had the aliens traveling to look for Lucy. They did get to meet Milton Berle though.

  2. More recently, Futurama had a race of aliens from Omicron Persei 8 threaten to destroy the human race if they didn’t broadcast an old episode of Jenny McNeal (Ally McBeal) – they then rushed off home to catch the second half of a 1000 year old Leno monologue.

  3. Tim, I think that you are thinking of the very funny Galaxyquest.
Hmmm, beaming blogs into space, eh? Well, one wouldn’t want the aliens to be unfamiliar with some of our more colloquial phrases…

  4. Postulate 1: We have radios.
Postulate 2: There are tiny killer robots in space.
Logical Conclusion: I must put tinfoil on my windows.

I’m never going to believe this wasn’t a paid one.
Tim adds: If you look at the category that this is placed in you will see that it says “paid blogging”. Most of my experiments with this idea are taking place on another blog, one that I’ve had lying around for ages, doing nothing.
However, this and the one before, break up by song, I thought were fun enough nonsenses that readers might actually be interested in them.

  6. Been doing that since their site was set up and no alien invasion yet.
