David Milliband Blog

As no one is ever going to actually read the David Milliband blog (at least, not without suffering ferocious attacks of narcolepsy) worth pointing to this thread and comment.

Yes, he paid 6,200 pounds to set up a blog. I make a comment and fair play to the man, while comments there are indeed moderated he did let it go up.

Between Guido and me that provides about 30% of Hugo Rifkind’s column today. I know Guido gets a bottle of Margaux each time this happens…err, Hugo?

David Miliband, the Minister for Something, who is
occasionally tipped as a future Labour leader, has a blog. A very
expensive blog. It cost around £6,200 to set up. An astonishing figure,
given that most blog providers charge somewhere between nothing and not
very much. “I don’t see it as a ‘scrounge off the taxpayer’,” he
writes. “Much of my professional life is ‘Ministerial’, paid for by the
taxpayer.” One commentator retorts: “Your defence is that your entire
life is scrounging off the taxpayer? You might want to sharpen that a
touch.”

I’m not sure he paid ANYTHING.
    The taxpayer paid.
He signed off 6200GBP to set up something that’s normally available at no cost.
    Standard government efficiency.

  2. I’ll admit that I feel a teeny bit better disposed to him after I commented on his blog, and amidst quite a few insults, pointed out one factual discrepancy, which he acknowledged in the comment below. (He was still wrong: 2,500 is not 3,000, but he gave it a shot.)

  3. Tim – Miliband has one ‘l’ not two (and I thought you were good at numbers).
