The Guardian and the Fabian Society are having a lovely little conference on what it is to be British.
Obviously they haven’t read THE BOOK. If they had they would have seen this from Stuff and Nonsense (not online any more):
But, the only thing that I can think of that would – for me – go some way to defining a sense of "Britishness" would be a scepticism towards all attempts at defining something as nebulous as such a concept. Theorising about abstractions is something we British tend to prefer to leave to Johnny Foreigner.
There we go then. They can cancel the conference as being terribly un-British and save all those CO2 emissions. Even to turn up to it would show that you don’t actually know what being a Briton is all about.
