Cameron on Education.

So the Boy Dave really is turning out to be Blair light, isn’t he:

David Cameron reversed decades of Conservative
education policy yesterday by ruling out the creation of more grammar
schools and endorsing the comprehensive system.

He
promised that there would be no return to the 11-plus under a future
Tory government and ditched the free-for-all on admissions that was a
major plank of the party’s education manifesto which he wrote for last
year’s general election.

Sigh.

  1. it’s probably to deal with the education establishment spin; they have predictably (and successfully) turned the policy into an 11 plus scare story. Neutralise it early. The other plan – to neutralise the LIb Dems seems to be working out nicely.

  2. I’m surprised Tim you believe in free higher education for all.

  3. He told parents, teachers and governors at a comprehensive in Basildon, Essex, that there was “a real case for more selection within schools rather than between schools”.
I like him more and more 😉
I’ll write something up properly from home, but essentially I wish people would drop this obsession with the 11+
Streaming within schools good, blocking people at a pre-teen age bad. Possibly 14+, but not 11+.

  4. that’s the point…the 11 plus is the bogeyman designed to protect the monopoly position of the current educational establishment..”we might be terrible, but without us you get the 11 plus!” Textbook Producer Capture of public services.

But if he is Blair Lite, this is proof positive that he will reintroduce Grammar Schools, isn’t it?
