It’s worth remembering, whatever the stupidities that turn up in the Comments Section occasionally, that The Guardian itself is institutionally in favour of free trade:

Its aim was to help the poorest countries out of trade poverty caused
by lack of access to western markets and by having to compete with
agricultural products buttressed by uneconomic subsidies which it ought
to be in the western countries’ self-interest to demolish.
