Nizlopi

So they made it! Nizlopi are the Number 1 Christmas single in the UK.

An unknown folk-pop duo last night topped the UK singles chart with a song about a JCB digger.

Nizlopi
– Luke Concannon and John Parker, both 27 and from Leamington Spa –
went straight in at number one with the JCB Song on their own FDM
label, beating Westlife’s new release, featuring Diana Ross, which
entered at number two.

It was, it has to be said, a pretty spiffy piece of internet based marketing. The single and video of The JCB Song is available online here.

As far as I’m aware that was the whole marketing plan. Online buzz. Not sure I actually like the song, to be sure, but then anything is better than Westlife, right?

  1. christmas no.1 is next weekend so they’ll have to hold off Shayne from the X factor

  2. Right. It’s a great song but I doubt it’ll be able to hold on for the second week. That video has been floating about for weeks and seemed to have the desired effect. And even better, I believe the band released the track on their own record label so unlike a lot of these one hit wonders [they’ve only had one hit!] they shouldn’t get shafted by their lables.
